Montessori Section
The Montessori Environment should be spacious enough to accommodate atleast one complete set of Montessori materials and working space for 35 children. The Montessori materials are arranged chronologically in accordance to the successive phases of development and human activity viz motor, sensorial, intellectual, artistic, religious and all branches of human knowledge such as language, mathematics, natural science history, geography etc., that help in the development of the child.
When the child is 2½ years old, the three powers intelligence, will and motor movements act in unity. (Psychomotor unity). By performing EPL activities the three powers get developed and the child acquires integrated personality. It helps the child to become independent and it improves his motor co-ordination.
Sensorial Activities : Any learning process has to be done with the senses. Activities performed with sensoral materials help them to become conscious of various physical properties of matter (dimensions, colour, surface, texture etc) We, the adults have to give him the master keys, titles, head lines.
After getting the master keys the child can look at it analytically and scientifically, i.e., scientific means of conserving, comparing and establishing the relationship. He will be able to explore the environment with the help of sensorial activities. All these suggestions come from him and this is the best way of developing the child's personality.
Montessori Adults : It is the active duty of the adult to establish constructive contact between the child and the means of development. On the basis of continuous unobstructive observation the adult has to decide when and which further help may be needed and can best be given.
Therefore, the apparatus can perform its purpose only if offered to the child in a suitably prepared environment, socially structured and lived in by a working community of children of three successive ages who share the same phase or sub-phase of development. The adult has to respect the freedom of the children to use the environment as a whole and the apparatus in particular, independently and according to both their basic developmental needs as well as in response to their individual characteristics.
Arithmetic : Arithmetic is the basis of Maths and Maths is the foundation of all sciences. In a Montessori Environment we have a variety of Arithmetic materials with which we help the children start from the first step counting numbers 1-10 and later on work simple additions, subtractions and much more. The true beauty of the material is that the children are able to understand the abstract ideas of Maths. Once they understand they work on their own with pleasure and confidence.
Language : Language is the science of communication. In the Montessori Method we follow the phonetic approach. Children become aware of sounds order of sounds in words and then automatically learn to read. When they gain good confidence in reading they themselves like to start writing everything they read, we teach the cursive script so that at this stage when he wants to write, he can write well.
